Creepin’ All Over Me

Is there a doctor in the house? I seem to have broken out in a rather strange-looking rash (strange enough to a typically rashless me). It doesn’t itch, it subsides after a few hours and resurfaces several later, and today’s the third day of its appearance. I want to blame the strange Chinese I had on Monday (food—what were you thinking?) but it isn’t the first time I’ve had any of that stuff, and it really wasn’t all that exotic to be the prime suspect, anyway.

Have since moved a rather suspicious looking plant that a vendor sent away from my desk, but I’m going to doubt it’s that, either. The GP downstairs doesn’t know what it is, but has prescribed a bunch of antihistamines. I’ve already taken those over the past few days, you quack.

Now I’m not sure if the rash itches because it really does or because I’m looking at it. But I’m just a bundle of rashes and goosepimples now. My only consolation is that the GP assures that I don’t have some pox/measles thing, and that it probably won’t spread to my face. “Probably.”

you must’ve been allergic to something, food or otherwise. try taking celestamine tablets (or look for the generic name, loratadine). feverish? drink lots of water.

show me. i might be able to help u.
i’ve gotten a kinda rash fro a viral infection( via the air),which took 4 months, YES FOUR months, to subside.

wow. i felt like i stumbled onto some skin-medical site. may i ask WHY you are NEVER online?

  5. Dr SpiroJanuary 25, 2006 @ 2:16 pm

Well honestly, it does look like some form of allergy. It’s really hard to figure out what’s causing the allergic reaction, but antihistamines are the way to go. It may take a while for the rash to completely disappear. However, is the rash only on the exposed areas of your skin? It might be from something you touch? Or it could even just be a skin sensitivity to changes in humidity and air temperature when you go in and out of the office.

Whatever the cause, if the rash changes in form or gets worse, you should go seek medical attention. =C)

angel> it isn’t itchy! but yeah, it makes me itchy looking at it too. haha.

lawrence> yup, only know the generic name, but have those… thanks. :) no fever though, thank goodness—chinese new year’s coming.

cy> are you serious. GAH. okay, i’ve moved this scary looking plant away, so hope that works. it was some gift, some money plant for luck. ironic isn’t it.

jody> ‘cos i went out to lunch! and i wasn’t able to be online. i was blogging from another terminal…

doctorspiro> i did see a doctor… the GP downstairs. but he doesn’t know. argh. it isn’t really on exposed areas only, just that it pops up everywhere, and then subsides in some areas, only to reappear there when others have gone down. and so on so forth. very annoying.

  7. SpiroJanuary 25, 2006 @ 4:31 pm

It’s probably a little something called urticaria… =C) Don’t worry, don’t think it’s too serious… most times, it’s really difficult to find the exact stimulus for the reaction.

  16. FalchionJanuary 27, 2006 @ 11:09 am

Sounds like those antihistamines are working. So most likely it was an allergic reaction. Glad you’re getting better.

  17. victoria — January 30, 2006 @ 1:35 pm

    Cy & Shortphat> On my… forearm? And ankle? Haha…

Fal> Thanks… :) It completely went away, so I think it’s that toxic plant that was on my desk that’s since been banished.

  18. SpiroFebruary 1, 2006 @ 9:40 am

    Sounds like it don’t it?

  19. FalchionFebruary 1, 2006 @ 11:24 am

Indeed. Perhaps you should consider investing in plastic forms of flora to adorn your desk. Or maybe you can consider this

  20. victoria — February 1, 2006 @ 11:55 am

Fal> Hahaha… I have that. Mine lasted a lot longer than stated on the can, so I was quite pleased. It gets inconveniently tall though.

hi! thank God, it’s just not me having this chronic urticaria. Mine is a lot worse it’s been more than a year since this rash, itch, urticaria thing got on me. I’ve been taking celestamine (antihistamine tablets) since then.. (tried other producst too) but it always comes out. What i notice is it usually pops out while I am asleep. When I wake up my arms, legs are full of it. I slowed down on antihistamine coz i am afraid it has bad side effects. It can’t be coz of bed mites coz my husband does not have it.

So hows ur rashes… are they ok now.. what did you do…. I’m constantly searching for answer for this chronic urticaria….

hugs and kisses from the Pihlippines,… please reply back on my email address. thanks.

I am also having this strange skin allergy, It always lasts for a week or two.I don’t where or what I got it from. I just noticed that it never fails for me to have this kind of allergy once every year. I also usually have rashes when I’m alseep, and usually they are on my feet and hands. I am also taking celestamine tablet to subside the inflammation, so far it works for me.
The only thing that worries me is the possibility that celestemine might have side effects, does it?

  23. celina — April 2, 2007 @ 9:03 am

    Hi Charisse,

How can I contact you? I am from the Philippines too. My daughter has chronic urticaria too, so I suspect. This started in February. We have gone to 3 doctors who prescribed claricort, allerta and celestamine but none of these worked.

Have you been on celestamine for 1 year? No side effects so far?

I have constant itching all over body and some hives.this occurs on a daily basis for over 10 months. I went to see one naturopath who told me to take 4000 vitamin c , quercitin 3x a day with bioflavanoids and bromelian and tumeric, magnesium, fish oil and I take vitamin e oil and flax. I also cut out wheat products. I cannot say yet wether I am getting better, but it’s alot less. Oh, very important, I take 4 acidophilus a day. Please email me if you have any remedies.

It’s freakish that I’m having the same issue as you after having Chinese food last week… it doesn’t seem to be getting any better with benadryl either… it’s quite frustrating because it gets worse when I’m outdoors and just when i think im getting better, it inflames every now and then. I’ve seen 2 doctors so far that “suspect” that it’s just allergies but I highly doubt it since I’ve never been allergic to anything…

Btw, are the rash totally gone now? Did you ever found out what the cause was?
