“Evita Peron? Oh, you mean like the hair clips?”

Okay, I definitely didn’t cry for Argentina. I’ve unrelentingly refused to watch Evita since it was released, for both reasons that I think Andrew Lloyd Webber’s scores are repetitive and frustratingly unmelodic (save for perhaps Phantom’s) and that Madonna would absolutely botch it up, melodic score or otherwise.

Tonight, however, it was the best choice out of the worst lot of DVDs picked, so I succumbed. Well, two wrongs absolutely don’t make a right, and this proved it more than ever.

First of all, lots of points to the director for not making it a cheesy musical. It’s always a big trough to fall into trying to balance between capturing the drama and narrative quality of a musical on film, I feel. But Madonna’s got to be the friggin’ oldest 15 year old I’ve ever seen. And even through the film till her death at a supposed 33, I was watching it thinking…Hell, she’s 50, she’s got to be.

As if Lloyd Webber’s scores weren’t already yawn-inspiring enough, Madonna’s lacklustre, nasal vocals just pointed that out further. Usually, he’s able to rely on powerful vocals to carry his scores through, but Madonna just blew a huge hole in his parade. You must love meeeeeeuuuurrrr.

Besides, the entire duration of the film, I kept thinking:

Every little thing that you say or do
I’m hung up
I’m hung up on you

Time goes by so slowly
Time goes by so slowly
Time goes by so slowly
Time goes by so slowly
Time goes by so slowly
Time goes by so slowly

Terribly distracting, but oh-so apt.

I refused to watch that movie. Actually when it came out we had just come back from some hike/run/camp thing for MGS so i was so dead tired i was like FUCK EVITA. good thing i did. Biggest waste of time ever.

Speaking of Music, i think you would like this Jappy pop song: it’s by a group called M-flo and it’s called “miss you” i have a link for you to hear it here. There is a line in there that i think says “we have to keep fobbing forever”. That cracks me up.

i thought madonna was cool during her erotica phase. and then the ray of light album. and then everything went downhill from there.

her and her crotch on mtv. isn’t exactly pleasant.

jody> I like it! Haha. If only it weren’t so R&Bish. (Doesn’t that look like “rubbish” at first glance?) I mean, why mess with J-pop, right.

jun> Time goes by, so slowly. Uh uh uh UH! *sound of madonna thrusting towards camera in music vid*
