“For Kicks, Lah”

So I added a randomly-generated thumbnail from my photoblog to the sidebar, in an effort to remind people of its existence and drive traffic there. However, I have no idea how many people are going there right now, nor how much this effort will improve visit counts, since I don’t have a comments section on the site, nor do I track visits and am far too lazy to specially implement something to do so.

I just have a hunch people aren’t going there.

I’m not however, too lazy to spend an accumulated four hours over the last two days trying in vain to implement something that’ll display the latest thumbnail, instead of a random one. Sounds way simple, but by the end of it, I was quite ready to poke my eye out or accept that the picture will just have to be a randomly-selected one. You now see the random one, testament of my self-forgiving nature.

Technology be damned!

(If anybody has suggestions, please leave a comment.)

Am looking forward to the long weekend. (Much work awaiting on Tuesday, though.) No big plans, only that I agreed not to go to potentially-crowded places. Which is a huge inconvenience, since my first choice was the zoo, then the Science Centre, next. Sue’s coming to the latter sometime in May, I think. Already, the uncoolness of my childhood dinosaur-fascination is creeping back to the surface.

I overheard someone say today in the lift that she was so excited to be able to vote in her constituency this time round, “…just for the thrill of voting opposition.” When asked if she was, in fact, an opposition-supporter, she said, “No lah…I support the PAP. But why not vote someone else for kicks?”

Doubly scary is the thought that she might not be unique in her rather irrational thought-process, that for every one of her, there are 500 more that will aggressively vote against a dominant party “for kicks”. Ironically, the government might have gone overboard in their hyping up of the Elections, in order to preempt apathy. Now, some people are way too excited, and for all the wrong reasons.

Clicking on the “photoblog” text link leads to a 404 not found page, with the URL “http://www.vickiho.com/blog/%3Ca%20href=”

I haven’t voted and would definitely be excited to vote. Voting for the opposition just so as to get a check and balance on the government, supporting the underdog….why not?
