Avert Thy Eyes

The instant my eyes caught sight of the old e-mail, embedded in an innocent search for something else, I recoiled in instinctive self-preservation. But my eyes wouldn’t leave the squarish box, scanning furiously for all the extra bits that stood out stabbingly the last I trashed it.

Breathe, breathe. A heart-thumping I didn’t consciously ask for in my chest, I’m left running away in separate windows; my eyes which refused to be torn away had to be assisted by the hasty click, re-clicking of a finger.

Heave. A spinning head later, I wonder why I do this. There is a “delete forever” option. I’ve seen it before, but I had never seen it before.

I’m perplexed. A normal stalker-ish email would not have invoked such a response.

    hmmm…curiosity killed the cat…

It wasn’t a stalkerish e-mail…It was someone I used to care about very much that, in no uncertain terms, went a little whacko and said mean things. It’s an old e-mail. But I guess it still pierces a little. :\
