All Phone-d Up and No One to Call

Whoopee! I got my new phone this afternoon. First look: it’s really fast (compared to the Dopod 818pro, which I’ve handled quite a bit) and the camera’s not too bad. HP’s got its own proprietary camera software layered over the Windows Mobile one, but it isn’t half bad, so I’m not complaining. It also means my photoblog will get an influx of new pictures (and not just the recent travel ones), so that’s nice. The keypad doesn’t require much getting used to either, which is a pleasant surprise, though I might have to trim my nails a little. But that’s just being anal.

Speaking of anal, I unpacked the phone as I would most gadgets: carefully, making sure my eye scans over everything in the package, glancing through the manual (yes, I actually do before I use most things) and setting up any necessary peripheral operations, like the syncing software on my PC, for example.

And just when I thought nothing would go wrong, I realised, in a cold moment of headbashing stupidity, that I had synced my entire contact list to my old laptop, not my work PC. You know, my old laptop which I, oh, reformatted and sold two months ago?

Talk about a mile of a difference between hiccups in setting up my phone and troughs of unconquerable empty contact list wastelands.

If you think I’m being dramatic, you should’ve spoken to me about three hours ago, at the point of that realisation dawning.

So if you have my number, please text me yours. Or e-mail me [at] vickiho.com. I’d greatly appreciate this, even though I think all of two of you might actually respond.

how much did u pay for it?
I’m eyeing the Samsung calculator phone. Flat, small, simple.
Singtel’s sellin it for $489 with a two yr plan, and starhub is selling it for less than $300 with a two yr plan too.
    What a major price discrepancy.
    so i will wait.

If it comes to it, and i was really hungry, i guess i could eat dr zoidberg, no problem (i’m a pig).. look forward to your verdict, good luck looking for it :)

What do you do, btw? Seems like you review consumer electronics (and travel to exotic locations) for a living.. which wd be a rather cool job.

stasher> I write for a business-IT publication, so it’s all enterprise IT, as far as work goes. I just like gadgets, and occasionally get the chance to play around with new toys. As for exotic locations, a conference is a conference right, whether it’s in France or Vietnam. At least they all seem the same to me. :P

    (Not so cool now, huh.)

yep - 319. the wonderful metropolis of cedar rapids… ;-) are there other cr humans present?

Oh yah, should have guessed from yr interest in enterprise linux and such.. yes, def a certifiably sexy industry, compared to say, writing for a trade journal for the utilities or cargo shipping or deep freezers industry.

France and vietnam both equally exotic to me. Since i’ve never been to vietnam, that’d be my choice of conference venue.
