May Chiangmai Have the Answer
Off to Chiangmai tomorrow for the weekend. To be honest, this will be the first trip I haven’t nerdily researched (okay, I googled it once, twice, maybe—max) but it ought to be fairly photogenic and mostly safe. By the former, I mean it’ll be visually more interesting, with a lot of colonial architecture still around. And by “safe”, I mean photographable subjects ought not be hard to find: people scattered about rivers, market places, colonial buildings…Full of overphotographed potential, but still worth a look.
I did consider bringing a small camera, as is my usual habit, but I think it might be worth it bringing a digital SLR for the flexibility and ease of flooding my Flickr once I return.
I hope it will be a good one. The chance to get straight head-smacked into reality—by getting away from my other reality.

If you have the time to, check out Chiangdao. It’s just a short drive away — you should at least check it out for dinner, or stay a night. :)

Have fun, anyway!
have darlin’ we oughta meet up soon, its been some time.
Thailand isn’t really a place to find colonial buildings, they were never colonised, in the traditional sense. Embassies, important residences and old trading houses in the colonial style are still around in some parts but generally everything is very typically Asian/Chinese style. The shophouse rules.
Max :: that’s true, but they sure did a fine job adopting the foreign culture in an effort not to get colonised. Nonetheless, you’re right–it’s very Southeast Asian.
