The Speed of the Ingterneck

What better way to ruin your own big announcement than by announcing it first on Facebook? A friend of mine was proposed to last night, and scheduled a lunch appointment with Vivian and I to announce the news.

But she broke it first on Facebook by subtly changing her status from “In a Relationship” to “Engaged” this morning, getting noticed by Vivian almost immediately.

Can anyone say “d’oh”? I’m happy for you all the same, Jo-Lyn! Good news is still news, no matter how it’s delivered.

Having steadily resisted e-invites to sign up for Facebook (isn’t it just another Friendster/MySpace/etc?), I feel sufficiently coerced now. I feel like my grandmother trying to figure out when TVs starting going all flat and broad.
